the arrival

I picked up this book in the library the other day. I already knew that Shaun Tan is good, but this stopped me in my tracks. I had a hundred other things to do, but they had to wait.

Here is a story of escape from tyrany and arrival in a new country made unfamiliar and new. And all told through pictures, through understatement, strangeness and detail.

Here are three of ts 128 pages:

‘The old country’ pencil on paper

Harbour’ pencil on paper

‘Ticket’ pencil on paper

Also wondrous: The Lost Thing

Now also as a short animation
